Specialized Care for Jaw Pain, Clenching, Headaches, and Facial Tension

Specialized Care for Jaw Pain, Clenching, Headaches, and
Facial Tension
Are you tired of thinking about your jaw all day?
Maybe you wake up with jaw pain or headaches. Maybe your jaw clicks, pops, catches, or feels tight
when you eat, talk, yawn, or sing. Perhaps you’ve noticed yourself clenching while driving,
working, exercising, or trying to fall asleep.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
Many people seeking TMJ therapy have already tried multiple approaches before finding me. They’ve
worn night guards, completed exercises, visited specialists, changed dentists, searched online for
answers, and often become frustrated by conflicting advice.
What they are looking for is simple: They want to feel comfortable again.
At Back to Touch Massage Clinic, I provide specialized TMJ therapy focused on reducing muscular
tension, improving jaw mobility, and helping people regain comfort in their daily lives.

TMJ Therapy

A Different Approach to TMJ Therapy

For nearly 25 years, I have worked with people experiencing chronic pain, headaches, neck tension,
movement restrictions, and TMJ-related discomfort.
Over the years, I have learned something important: TMJ symptoms are rarely just about the jaw.
The jaw is connected to the muscles of the face, tongue, neck, shoulders, chest, and the nervous
system itself. When tension develops in one area, the entire system adapts.
This is why so many people with TMJ symptoms also experience:

  • Headaches
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder tension
  • Facial tightness
  • Ear discomfort
  • Teeth clenching or grinding
  • Stress-related muscle tension
  • Difficulty relaxing

Instead of focusing only on the jaw joint, I look at the bigger picture.
My goal is to identify and address the muscular and movement patterns that may be contributing to
your discomfort.
My philosophy is simple:

“You can’t reduce pain by creating more pain.”

Many people come to me after receiving aggressive treatments that left them sore and guarded. I
believe the body responds best when treatment is precise, respectful, and comfortable.
When the nervous system feels safe, lasting change becomes possible.

Why People Choose TMJ Therapy

Clients often seek treatment because they experience:
✓ Jaw pain or soreness
✓ Teeth clenching or grinding
✓ Clicking or popping of the jaw
✓ Limited jaw opening
✓ Facial pain or pressure
✓ Headaches or migraines
✓ Morning jaw tension
✓ Neck and shoulder discomfort
✓ Jaw fatigue while chewing or speaking
✓ Stress-related tension
✓ Tightness around the temples or ears

✓ Difficulty fully relaxing the jaw
Many of my clients have been living with these symptoms for months or even years before seeking
care.

What Makes My Approach Different?

Every session is personalized.
Rather than following a standard protocol, I tailor treatment to your specific symptoms, tension
patterns, comfort level, and goals.
Depending on your needs, treatment may include:

  • TMJ massage therapy
  • Intraoral massage
  • Myofascial therapy
  • Trigger point therapy
  • Neck and shoulder treatment
  • Movement-based techniques
  • Nervous system-focused care
  • Self-care recommendations
The focus is always on helping your body move more comfortably and function with less effort.

Intraoral Massage: Reaching Muscles Other Therapies Can’t

One of the services that sets my practice apart is intraoral massage.
Using medical gloves, I gently work inside the mouth to access muscles that cannot be reached from
the outside.
These muscles often contribute to jaw tension, clenching, restricted movement, and facial
discomfort.
Many clients are initially nervous about intraoral work but are surprised by how safe and
comfortable it feels.
Intraoral massage is always optional and performed only with your consent.

TMJ Therapy for Singers, Teachers, Actors, and Voice Professionals

Your jaw is part of your instrument.
Excess tension in the jaw, tongue, neck, and surrounding structures can affect vocal comfort,
stamina, resonance, and ease of expression.
Through my Vocal Vitality Therapy approach, I help singers, actors, teachers, speakers, podcasters,
and other voice professionals address tension patterns that may interfere with performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during a TMJ therapy session?

We begin with a conversation about your symptoms, history, lifestyle, and goals.
I assess posture, movement patterns, jaw function, and areas of tension before creating a treatment
plan tailored specifically to you.
Treatment may include work on the jaw, face, scalp, neck, shoulders, chest, and other connected
areas. Intraoral massage may be included when appropriate and desired.

Does intraoral massage hurt?

No.
While some muscles may feel tender, treatment is performed slowly and gently. Pressure is adjusted
throughout the session according to your comfort level.
How many sessions will I need?
Every person is different.
Some people notice meaningful changes after their first visit, while chronic patterns often benefit
from a series of treatments combined with simple self-care strategies.
Why work on my neck and shoulders if my jaw hurts?
Because the jaw functions as part of a larger system.

Tension in the neck, shoulders, chest, tongue, and surrounding structures can influence how the
jaw moves and feels. Addressing these areas often helps create more lasting improvement.

Do you diagnose TMJ disorders?

No.
As a Licensed Massage Therapist, I do not diagnose medical conditions.
My role is to address muscular tension, soft tissue restrictions, movement limitations, and
stress-related patterns that may contribute to discomfort and reduced mobility.

You don’t have to accept jaw pain, headaches, facial tension, and constant clenching as your
